About

A historically accurate, real-time tactical game of fleet combat under sail.

The game

Steadfast puts you on the quarterdeck of your own flagship. Signal your line, read the wind and commit to the broadside that decides the day. Battles run in real time and range from a pair of cutters trading shot in a squall to a full fleet action between rated Ships of the line, all the way up to the Battle of Trafalgar at true scale.

Pull back to a bird’s-eye view to read the whole battle: the wind, the formations, the gaps opening in the enemy line. Then drop down to the waterline and watch your orders play out. Weather, formations, morale and timing decide the day as much as weight of shot, and period tactics are yours to use.

Damage is modelled piece by piece. Hulls spring leaks, masts come down and crew morale wavers under fire. Fight alone against the computer, or take your fleet online against other admirals.

Steadfast is in pre-alpha development for PC. Everything shown on this site is captured in-engine.

The period

The game is set between 1792 and 1815, the years of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. For more than two decades the navies of Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark fought over the sea lanes that carried Europe’s trade, troops and supplies, from the English Channel and the North Sea to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

It was the high point of the sailing warship. Fleets fought in line of battle, with ships of the line trading broadsides at close range. Frigates scouted, raided and carried dispatches, while brigs and cutters patrolled the coasts and hunted privateers. Admirals willing to break from rigid line tactics won some of the most decisive sea battles ever fought: Jervis at Cape St Vincent, Duncan at Camperdown, and Nelson at the Nile and Trafalgar.

Vessels, armaments and scenarios in Steadfast are drawn from contemporary sources, so a frigate handles like a frigate and a ship of the line takes the punishment one ought to.

The team

Steadfast is built by a team of two. Erik leads development and comes from a background in software engineering. Igor is the project's lead artist.

Between us we have worked across both games and technology, on titles including IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover with Team Fusion, Post Scriptum, the Ultimate General and Ultimate Admiral series, and Naval Action.

Steadfast is made by Circlesphere. Development updates go out through the journal and the Discord, and the best way to support the project before release is to wishlist it on Steam.
